Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"I'm not sure how I was not aware of this establishment earlier. Brought my son tonight to try the ice cream. First impressions, service was very friendly, lots of flavors to choose from. I tried the dirt pudding which I never had in ice cream before but I highly recommend it. My son ordered the cookies and cream. Great atmosphere, I wished I hadn't eaten supper before visiting because I would love to try the meat. The lady at the counter shared how they started and was very pleasant. I will definitely return with the family to try the fire part of the restaurant because the ice was amazing."
"If you’re into smoked brisket, beef, pork or chicken, this family run business does it right every time we go there! Their cole slaw is about the best I’ve had and you have not had smoked mac n’ cheese until you’ve had theirs! After all that, walk over to their huge selection of “made on premises” ice cream flavors! (It’ll be a WOW moment trying to pick the flavors you’d like!) It’s a beautiful drive to Matamoras, just south of Halifax, and you’ll find yourself returning over and over again!"
"First time ever going in. Folks there wonderful and great customer service. Very friendly and nice cozy atmosphere. Sound dampening panels on the ceiling so you can have conversations and hear one another even with music and other patrons in the background. The pulled chicken was super tasty and the mac n cheese was creamy and delicious! The various BBQ sauces are great. I tried several. Last but not least, the icecream is amazing! We will definitely be coming back."
"Our first time here, my family and I enjoyed the BBQ and the ice cream. The interior and atmosphere was much more inviting than the deceiving plain exterior. Recommended."
"Food was good, service not so much. You order at the register and clean your own plates/table. They then yell your name to come get your food, even though they also give you a number. I hate this kind of model - especially because when your order is wrong (like ours was) I had to wait in a line for 15-20 minutes to tell someone then wait another 5 minutes for the food... all while my family is sitting at the table waiting to eat their food. I also really hate that unless you want tea, lemonade, or water - the drink options are bottled. The parking lot is pretty small. So good luck finding parking if it's busy! The place is nice .... I also thought it was weird they would spend so much money renovating but the bathrooms are blah. No changing table but a random changing pad on the floor ... and the toilets were so ancient, it was hard to flush."
"Absolutely phenomenal place to eat. The food was delicious and the ice cream is top notch. We will be making this a frequent stop for lunch and dinner. Been here multiple times already and they never disappoint. The smoked mac and cheese is to die for. The pulled pork is what dreams are made of."
"Wow! So impressed. Visited today with a coworker. Absolutely amazing BBQ and great prices. I got the chicken quarter and im serious, it was the best chicken Ive had at any BBQ place, EVER. The greenbeans were so nice too. Loved the sweetness cooked into them. It really made them so different and fun. The eggs! Ive been struggling to make good ones at home lately and I was so happy to find great ones here. My coworker had the Peter's Mtn. Pile Up with brisket. He loved it. We have one more week in the area and we are definitely coming back before we leave. Thank you of such a great lunch guys"
"Really delicious food and ice cream a nice drive up the river . Super friendly staff . Highly recommend the slider sampler , roasted broccoli and the brisket salad - as well as the chocolate cherry and salted caramel ice cream. Worth the trip and I'll be back ."
